I started out acting as a child in church Christmas plays and school plays. I joined the junior high school band and learned as much about each instrument as I could, gathering a fascination with sound. Over time my local church allowed me to sound mix the youth group meetings, and I played various instruments in the praise and worship bands. In high school allowed me more access to audio equipment as I neared graduation, controlling the sound board for several school functions, events, and assemblies.
I gained an interest in video directing before finishing high school. I filmed and edited videos with friends, and continued creating videos in college, eventually creating a limited run comedic talk show for the university television channel.
I fell in love with theatre during college, participating and volunteering in any way to be part of the theatrical process. Around this time I became intrigued with lighting and electrics. I was able to sound design several student projects, as well as a working knowledge of design, programming, and operation of stage and event lighting.
I became interested in directing as I read and watched more plays, wanting to work together with people to bring the text to life. My favourite part of directing is the discoveries made during the rehearsals. When a piece of text finally clicks and becomes real. I see the director as the guide from the pages to the stage, building on others’ talents to create collaborative works of art.
